Using a treadmill to increase stamina

Increase stamina

By following a structured exercise programme you can easily increase your stamina, but you will need to set goals that are measurable and achievable. Even a basic treadmill will allow you to keep a track on the distances you have run, so you can work towards your goals accurately.

The golden rule to obey is to never increase your mileage by more than 10% per week. This means that you will not put too much stress on your body as it adapts to the increased workload. Another key point is to make sure you incorporate rest days into your programme. Try and alternate your longer, slower runs with shorter, quicker ones to keep the workouts varied whilst giving your body a chance to recover and repair.

If you have a very low level of fitness, there are training plans available online that can get you from walking to running 5k in a matter of weeks. You just have to put in the work and the results will come.

Some treadmills allow you to store your workout data, or user profiles for a quick and easy way to track your progress. Others even have a built in fitness test. Once the workout is over, you hold onto the pulse sensor grips. In a few moments your fitness level is displayed on the screen.
