Horizon Omega 509 Treadmill
As you’d expect, the 509 is similar to both Horizon’s Omega 309 Treadmill and the slightly more advanced Omega 409. In fact, it’s very similar to the Omega 409, with improvements most notable with the computer console.
The 509 has increased the built-in programmes and screens that are available on the control panel. The number of screens have been increased from 5 on the 409 up to 7 screens on this model. The Omega 509 has the same e-Trak feature that records your exercise routines over time, these have also been increased from 4 to a total of 6, showing details of your current run, and your past workouts over time so you get a full profile of how you are progressing. The 509 has the welcome addition of two heart-rate controlled programmes, which automatically change the speed/incline of the machine for an optimal workout. The console also constantly feeds back the pertinent info you’d expect such as the total time and distance you have run, current speed and incline, heart rate as well as calories, fat and carbs burnt. Another inclusion on the console is the quick-keys that let you set the incline/speed of the treadmill with a single button press.
We lamented over the fact that the 409 didn’t have an in-built heart-rate receiver, well I’m pleased to say that the Omega 509 has a Polar Chip built in, so you can measure your pulse via a chest-strap as an alternative to the pulse sensors in the handlebars. This will ensure you get the best out of the heart-rate controlled programmes.
The rest of the spec is as per the lower model in the range. The running area is a comfortable 140 x 46 cm and features the same excellent VCS cushioning system to give you a comfortable run. The motor on the 509 is the 1.75 HP Digital Drive Motor, and this runner can accommodate a user up to 300llb. The top speed of the machine is 10mph, and the 509 has a motorised incline that can push the treadmill up to a 12% gradient in finely grained increments of 0.5%.
Of course, the 509 has the same excellent warranty as the other Horizon treadmills. In case you’ve forgotten, the warranty is for lifetime cover on the motor and frame, with 3 Years parts and labour on the rest of the machine.
If you’re looking for a solid treadmill with heart-rate controlled features and wireless heart-rate sensors then you can’t go wrong with this treadmill, otherwise the 309 and 409 in this range are also excellent alternatives.
