Horizon Paragon 308 Treadmill
For a start, the treadmill has a motor rated at 1.75HP continuous. This is a little less than the more expensive models in the range, but we found it powerful enough when we tried out the machine. The motor can comfortably push this machine to a top speed of 16kph (10mph) which is more than acceptable for the majority of runners that would be using this machine.
The running deck of the 308 is certainly smaller than both the 408 and 508, but you would expect this with the cheaper model. That said it can be stll be measured at 132cm x 51cm. I would say you would only struggle if you were pushing the treadmill at top speed. The running deck is also cushioned and uses the same variable cushioning system as the other two treadmills in the Horizon range. The running area can also be inclined up to 10%, this can be increased/decreased in 0.5% intervals.
The only downside to the 308 is the lack of programmes built into the console. It does have six though with these being Manual, intervals, rolling, weight loss, hill run and heart rate control but we’d like to see some heart-rate controlled programmes as well. The console has two screens that feedback all the relevant information you require, such as current speed, distance, calories burned and current incline. It is also has the “quick-keys” built in, that let you change the current speed and elevation of the 308 with a single touch of a key.
Heart rate monitoring comes via the hand contact sensors built into the handlebars of the machine. This treadmill also has the in-built Polar-chip, so you can transmit your heart-rate back to the console via a compatible chest-strap (you’ll have to purchase this seperately).
What’s great about the Horizon 308 and this range of Horizon Treadmills in general, is that they pretty much cater for the larger runner. To me, that shows a huge amount of confidence in the build quality of the machines. As an example, the 308 can take a runner up to just over 299llb (or 136KG). The more expensive models in the range can accommodate larger runners still.
The 308 comes with the usual warranty for this range. The frame and motor are covered by Horizons lifetime warranty, and the full machine is covered by the excellent three year parts and labour guarantee.
