Horizon Paragon 408 Treadmill

The Horizon Paragon 408 is a mid-range folding treadmill and a notable upgrade from it’s little brother, the Horizon Paragon 308.

The first thing we always seem to mention with the Horizon range is the warranty which is always at least on-par or better than any other manufacturers out there. The 408 is no exception and comes with a reassuring lifetime warranty on the motor and the frame, as well as three years parts and labour on the rest of the machine.

So what features does the 408 running machine sport? Well, this is one sturdy machine and is built for exercisers in all shapes and sizes. The 408 is rated to carry a runner up to a weight of up to 159KGS (350lbs), this weight limit is virtually unprecedented in a folding treadmill in this class. Obviously for a user at the top end of this scale, you’d be looking for a suitable motor to power the belt. The 408 has a much larger motor than the 308, which is rated at a decent 2.25HP (3.5HP peak), which compares favourably to the 308 which is rated at 1.75HP.

The running deck is cushioned. featuring Horizon’s variable cushioning system which gives the runner a more comfortable work-out. The running area of this treadmill is also generously proportioned, measuring 51cm x 140 cm.

The machine can monitor your heart rate via the sensors built into the handlebars as with most treadmills. You can also give heart-rate feedback to the machine via an optional chest strap, as the Paragon 408 has a built in Polar chip to receive the signal. The console also has eight built in programmes such as Cross Country, Hill Run and After Burner. The on-board computer also includes one programme that is heart rate controlled, this alters the machines speed to help keep you within the optimal heart-rate zone.

Other improvements over the 308 include the machines top speed capability, as well as the motorised incline. If you’re capable you can push this machine to a fairly pacey 12MPH. The treadmill can also be pushed up to a steep 12% incline for hill-style running.

The Paragon 408 does the basics extremely well with an excellent motor, warranty, incline and top speed. If Horizon worked on the console programmes a little more, this machine would be in a class of it’s own.
