Horizon Paragon 508 Treadmill
In many ways this machine is similar to the Horizon Paragon 408 treadmill, but some key modifications have been made to this machine.
For a start, the running area on the 508 is massive. It comes in at 51 x 153 cm. This is the same width as the running deck on the 408, but is 13cm longer than the lower model in the range. As you’d expect the running area is cushioned using Horizon’s Variable Cushioning System that reduced impact on the lower body joints making your run more comfortable.
The motor on the Horizon 508 is a generous 2.5HP (continuous) that can go up to 4.0HP at peak if required. We were impressed that the 408 could accommodate a runner of larger proportions, but the 508 is capable of taking a larger person as it is rated to accommodate an individual up to 170kg (374lbs). The top speed and incline of the 508 are the same as the lower spec’d model, with the machine being able to get up to 12mph (20kph) and the motorised electric incline being able to be raised up to 12%.
We thought the 408 was a good all-round treadmill, but were a little disappointed with the number of programmes available on the console. The 508 has fifteen pre-programmed exercise routines which is an extra seven programmes when compared to the 408. These include manual, hill climb, rock climb and race mode. It also has five user programmes that can be customised and stored so they can be used by the individual at a later date (without having to set them up again). There are also two different heart-rate controlled programmes built-in, the 408 has only one HRC programme in its console. You can feedback your heart-rate via the pulse sensors in the handlebars as you would expect, or preferably by using a chest strap as the machine has an in-built Polar-Chip to receive the wireless signal.
Luckily, the machine has a set of transport wheels, otherwise you’d have problems manoeuvring this treadmill around.
Not surprisingly, the 508 comes with the same excellent warranty as the 408. It has lifetime cover on the frame and motor, as well as a three year parts and labour warranty on the machine as well.
