Proform 5.2 Folding Treadmill
The motor on the 5.2 has an extra 0.25CHP compared to the 4.0, taking this treadmills motor up to a respectable 2.25CHP. The increase in HP of the motor means that this running machine has a top speed of 20kph or around 12mph. To accommodate the extra speed the running deck length has been increased, with dimensions of the running area being a comfortable 51×152cm.
Similar to the 4.0, this treadmill features the 0% to 12% quick incline feature of the lesser model.
The Proform 5.2 comes complete with the ProTech 5TM Adjustable Cushioning built in, that can reduce impact on the joints by up to 33% compared to road running. The fact that the firmness of the running deck is a feature that will please many. Whilst runners like to reduce the wear-and-tear on their knee joints, sometimes the cushioned boards feel a little too springy, so the fact that the cushioning can be altered is a good customisation feature.
We find that it is easier to keep motivated when the machine has plenty of in-built programmes. The 5.2 has 20 personal trainer workouts built into the computer console. Each one is specifically designed to focus on weight-loss, aerobic exercise and other performance goals. The machine achieves this by automatically adjusting it’s incline and speed to meet the needs of the runner. In addition to this the machine comes with “Competition Training Center”. With this feature you get the opportunity to compete with other “virtual runners”, another really good feature to help keep you motivated. We all like a little bit of healthy competition every now and again.
Your heart-rate can be measured by either using the in-built EKG monitors that reside in the handlebars, or via the wireless chest-strap that comes with the machine. Heart-rate can be viewed on the console, along with the other standard data you would expect to see (speed, calories burned, distance travelled).
We’re always fairly impressed with the Proform warranties compared to other manufacturers machines in similar price ranges. The 5.0 has an acceptable lifetime warranty on the machine’s frame, 5 years for the motor and 2 years for parts and labour.
