Reebok 5.1 Treadmill Review
The 5.1 has some features that you’d expect from a machine in this price bracket. The computerised console has fifteen in-built programs, some of which are heart rate controlled (basically changing the speed and incline of the machine based on your heart-rate). To make best use of this feature, I recommend that you use a wireless chest strap. The 5.1 can be used with one of these straps, or you can use the heart-rate monitors built into the handlebars, or this will be less accurate and mean you’ll have to constantly hold onto the handlebars when using the heart-controlled programs, and obviously when running at a faster pace, you’ll also require your arms. The Dot Matrix style LED screen give constant information on the distance travelled, time run, currnent speed, pulse calories burned and the machines current incline level. This is all information you would expect to see in a machine in this price bracket.
The treadmill comes with a 2.0HP machine, and a maximum running weight of 115kg (253lbs). The top speed of this machine is a meesly 16km/h (10mph). Demanding runners would probably like an extra mile an hour or two. The 5.1 also has a motorised incline that can be positioned at up to twelve different levels. The running deck dimensions, at top speed you’d feel more comfortable with a slightly larger running area.
On a positive note, Reebok have tried to add a couple of “neat” features. For example, they have added something called the “Auto Motion Control System”. The computer console has been fitted with sensors that detect hand movements from the runner. You can use certain hand movements to control the speed of the machine or bring it to a complete stop. For example, hovering your left hand increases speed by 0.5MPH, hover the right and decreas the speed by the same amount, or place both hands over the sensors and bring the machine safely to a complete stop.
The warranty of the Reebok 5.1 is acceptable at two years parts and labour, but this is only comparable to the popular I-Run running machine and is totally overshadowed by treadmills from the likes of Proform.
